Engineering definition

The act or process of causing to occur.

Electromagnetic induction:  the production of time-varying potential in a conductor when it is in a time-varying magnetic field. The relation between potential and field is given by Faraday's law of induction. This calculus concept, definition, and equation may be found in all elementary physics textbooks.

Medical definition

  1. The production of a specific morphogenetic effect in the embryo through a chemical substance.
  2. The period from the start of anesthetization to the establishment of a depth of anesthesia or unconsciousness adequate for a surgical procedure.
  3. The initiation or augmentation of a process such as labor through mechanical or pharmacological means.

Confusion

Engineers are less likely to understand the meaning in the context of anesthesiology.
