The medial epicondyle of the distal humerus is an easily palpable process that provides an attachment point for the ulnar collateral ligament, which contributes to the elbow joint. It is also an attachment point for the pronator teres, a muscle used to pronate the forearm. Furthermore, the medial epicondyle provides an attachment point for some of the flexor muscles of the forearm that flex, abduct, and adduct (move toward the body’s midline) the hand and flex the fingers. The medial epicondyle also protects the ulnar nerve (funny bone), which runs in a groove posterior to the epicondyle.
