The medial malleolus is an anatomical feature on the distal medial side of the tibia. It is the large bony prominence observable on the inside of the ankle. It serves as an attachment for the strong deltoid ligament that stabilizes the medial ankle and limits foot flattening. The medial malleolus of the distal tibia forms a concavity for the top of the ankle joint.
