Engineering definition
Clearly defined and measurable goals. These may be in the form of a true or false response, a quantitative measurement, or a series of recommendations. They may be based on documented evidence as recorded from a single viewpoint.
Medical definition
The condition of a patient following intervention, treatment, or the course of a disease. It is not a solely objective measure, as patient satisfaction is a critical element.
Confusion
The understanding of a positive or negative outcome in engineering is generally clear and measurable and agreed upon by all parties. However, in the medical field, the outcome may be measured differently by the patient than the physician.
