Robotics, a discipline that requires knowledge in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer programing, utilizes sensors, actuators, computers, and mechanical and electrical hardware to produce devices capable of complex movements similar to living organisms. Robotics is used in manufacturing of automobiles producing dexterous movements that are repeated many times. Remote control devices used to disarm bombs often have robotic arms that can be controlled at a safe distance.
Medical applications of robotics include robot-assisted surgery, in which sophisticated computers and a robotic arm are used to assist surgeons during the surgery.
