The thoracic spine consists of twelve thoracic vertebrae and lies between the lumbar spine on the bottom and the cervical spine on the top. Two ribs are attached to each vertebra, one on the left and one on the right. Movement at each intervertebral joint is small, but can be substantial when movements of the entire thoracic region are combined.
